UCH Logistics Case Study

About the Company
UCH Logistics is a dynamic, customer-focused provider of specialist transport services to the airfreight industry. Having been established in the industry since the year 2000, they have built a reputation for offering reliable time-sensitive and next day deliveries at competitive prices.
The Business Challenge
UCH were being inundated with connectivity issues within the warehouse, which they believed was potentially related to their network’s age, coverage or their existing estate of devices, however this was undiagnosed. The age of the devices being the issue seemed to be supported by the growing number of device failures, support calls, and required repairs.
As a result of device failures, end-user compliance with standard procedures was not optimal and there was resistance to change based on issues with the devices.
With a growing demand for business and increased warehouse throughput, UCH Logistics soon realised its existing mobile device infrastructure was no longer fit for purpose. At the time, the company was utilising a raft of rapidly ageing Zebra TC20 handheld devices where the warehouse teams regularly encountered issues, including Wi-Fi drop out at the point of consignment scanning.
UCH Logistics knew it needed to underpin & improve their efficiency, readying themselves for growth with enhanced reliability and device availability. To do that, it needed to leverage the expertise of a mobile technology solutions provider with crucial experience supporting customers in the supply chain sector and chose to partner with PLM Global.

The Solution
With decades of experience implementing end-to-end mobility solutions throughout the supply chain, PLM Global supported UCH in diagnosing the issue through flexible parallel trials with test devices utilising 802.11 standards and aided UCH Logistics in identifying that the Network was not the route of the problems they were experiencing. Ultimately, UCH Logistics would benefit from reduced costs as the Wi-Fi upgrade was proven unnecessary.
Zebra’s TC21 Touch Computer has all the right business features to allow the warehouse team to capture and access data they need faster and more efficiently in a rugged design that delivers reliable operation day in day out.

Benefits and Results
Today UCH are using a modern and expanding suite of warehouse scanning tools that is fully supported by state of the art technology. They are now able to serve their clients throughout the UK and mainland Europe. No job is too small or too large, and their technology means that consignments can be tracked at any time of the day or night.
With a robust maintenance contract from PLM Global, including the next working day exchange, UCH Logistics can operate fully in its mobility infrastructure with an end-to-end mobility solution delivered in partnership with Zebra.
