TLM Technologies

The Challenge

The partnership with TLM Technologies has gone from strength to strength, with the initial formation coming from the relationship that Shane Watson, Managing Director of PLM Global and Bob Laidlaw, Chief Operating Officer of TLM have built up over a decade.

The client had won a large software rollout deal with a leading UK fuel and convenience company but was faced with the challenge of sourcing old equipment required for new sites, and subsequently repairing units that failed in the field. TLM quickly realised that actually, they needed the support of a hardware partner to help with the supply and maintenance of legacy devices – this is where we stepped in!
The Solution

We were asked to help source and maintain a large estate of legacy Symbol Technologies MC3000 / MC7000 series, hand-held terminals and accessories. Not only that, but before dispatching the equipment, we were also asked to stage it.
Due to the aggressive nature of the roll-out of these devices, time constraints were a big challenge. But both of the PLM and TLM teams worked together in coming up with a solution, in which they decided that in certain circumstances the devices should be loaded and sent directly to the site. Our teams also got ahead of the curve and pre-configured a number of devices in advance, this would ensure they were ready for direct shipment to sites that were being moved to the new software and could get up and running with TLM in no time.

The Delivery

The outcome was a resounding success. All equipment was correctly configured and now TLM’s client can happily and conveniently use our devices for stock taking, label requests and stock ordering. The maintenance of these devices will be ongoing, after a whilst we are hopeful that we can work with TLM going forward, if and when the end-user decides to refresh their estate.

This project nicely demonstrates our approach to circular economy. Due to our truly global client base, we are able to maximise on the potential reutilisation of equipment, avoiding unnecessary spend and landfill waste.

Testimonial

Bob Laidlaw, the Chief Operating Officer at TLM Technologies, who has been working closely with PLM throughout, has said:
We have worked with PLM over a number of years most recently on a major rollout which was successfully completed despite the challenges of Covid. PLM were a key contributor to the success of the project with a can-do, customer-first attitude always willing to go the extra mile to find the product you need. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending PLM as a partner/supplier.”
